Insurance and Location
Currently I'm offering virtual telehealth consults, home visits and office visits. Please let me know what works best for you.
I have always believed that lactation support should be accessible and affordable. That's why I'm excited to partner with the Lactation Network. They are able to bill most insurance plans directly so that you get initial and follow-up lactation consults at no cost to you. If you have Anthem, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna or United Health Care health insurance: please fill out their simple online form. They will let you know whether your insurance plan fully covers lactation support. If it's covered, the Lactation Network will get the consults approved in advance and take care of billing for you.
I am also in network with Aetna. If you have Aetna health insurance, please email me a copy of your insurance card: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also let me know if your baby is on your Aetna insurance plan. Since I am in network Aetna usually covers up to six consults with me, though depending on your plan you may have a co-pay. (For comparison: with lactation consults that are out of network, Aetna does not guarantee they will reimburse you for the full consult fee. Depending on your plan Aetna may reimburse you only for a small portion.)
If your consult is not covered in advance and you need to pay out of pocket, I do provide a receipt (called a "superbill") with specific information you need to submit for insurance reimbursement. Under the Affordable Care Act (also known as the “ACA” and “Obamacare”), most health insurance plans are required to cover comprehensive breastfeeding support by a trained provider. However, some plans have been “grandfathered” in and are not covered under the ACA. I suggest you check with your insurer about coverage prior to the consult to discuss reimbursement. Unfortunately I can't guarantee reimbursement, despite the Affordable Care Act's lactation provisions, but can give you information, tips and resources to help you get reimbursed.
Please note that Kaiser and Medicaid do not reimburse for consults, but I offer a discount for Medicaid recipients. As well, during this difficult economic time, if you have to pay out of pocket and need a discount, please ask me. It's really important to me that no one who needs lactation support should go without it, or should be financially strained to get it.
My office is in Boulder, CO at the Postpartum Wellness Center of Boulder. I also offer home visits, where we work on getting you comfortable breastfeeding in your own home. If you are interested in a home visit, please let me know your address, or if you feel more comfortable just your street name, on the Appointment page. Please don't forget your city. This information is needed for pricing and scheduling.
